About Us

The Boatyard Story – About Us

Situated on Peel’s historic quayside the Boatyard enjoys views of the bustling marina and ancient castle offering you the perfect spot to relax over a delicious lunch or candlelit evening meal. Fresh seafood straight off the boat and local meat from the Islands finest butchers is prepared daily by the head chef and served to you by our friendly Boatyard team.

Seasonal à la carte and set lunch menus, with daily fisherman specials on our specials which may include local lobsters (seasonal), queenies, scallops and whole fish. The kitchen uses as much locally sourced produce as possible to bring you a true taste of the Island and its surrounding seas. As well as a handpicked wine and gin list, the drinks menu features Isle of Man beers, mineral waters and soft drinks.

The Boatyard caters for gluten free and other special diets on request and welcomes families with young (and old) children who can enjoy the Little Pirates menu and activity bags.

Founded in 2013 by the Mowat Family, Joan, Robin & Laura, as well as the extended Boatyard family look forward to welcoming you to our restaurant by the sea. Please take a moment to view our menus, check out our Instagram feed for pictures and make reservations by booking online.

GROUP BOOKINGS

PLEASE NOTE: Bookings for 9 or more guests

If your party is 9 people or more, please contact the restaurant directly on 01624 845470. You will not be able to make online bookings. If you need to increase the number of guests, which means it will be 9 or more, the below booking conditions will apply.

DEPOSIT For group booking it is our policy to ask for a deposit to confirm your reservation. Deposits are to guarantee your booking. Should you cancel or not attend without prior notification (typically 48hrs before), the deposit may be forfeited in whole or part forfeited for individual guests.

FOOD PRE- ORDER Our chefs do a fantastic job cooking for up to 70 guests on our busiest lunch and dinner services, so taking a large group booking we ask for a food pre-order to be returned to us in advance (typically no later than 2 days before). Why? This forward planning helps the kitchen order sufficient produce and supplies to ensure we can offer all our menu items to your party, we have limited oven and cooking equipment, so knowing we have a large order coming, our chefs can plan ahead and accommodate your order around the multiple other orders we have to cook for. When you make your booking, we will advise of the need to pre-order. An email with our menus and pre-order sheet will be sent out to your email.

If you do not accept our policy of a deposit and a food pre-order, we will regretfully not be able to take your reservation.

AVAILABLE TIMES

Depending on the size of your group (9+), we may limit the available arrival times and a duration on the table to fit around other smaller bookings. Generally, bookings made at 5.30pm or 6pm will have a table duration of 2 hours 15 mins, bookings at 8pm / 8.30pm and 8.45pm will have the table for the night.

Unfortunately, we cannot offer group bookings (9+) at times other those above, unless you have opted for exclusive use of the restaurant in which case the timings is tailored to your event. Note we set a minimum spend for exclusive use which depends on the time of day (lunch or dinner) and time of year (off peak e.g. mid-week/ peak e.g, Weekends, TT, Summer, Christmas)

If you are not able to accept the above booking conditions, we are unable to take your booking.

USING ONLINE BOOKING

MY PREFERRED TIME IS NOT SHOWING

Firstly, after selecting the date and number of guests, be sure to look for the drop-down option of Lunch or Dinner. By default, it will normally show Lunch availability. To manage the number of guests arriving / ordering food at any one time, we limit the number of available time slots. The booking system will only show times that are available. If your preferred time is not shown it could be that there are no more tables available at that time or the number of guests in your party exceeds the number of guests, we can accept at that time. Please choose one of the times shown.

WHY ARE THERE NO TIMES SHOWING AT ALL?

There are a couple of reasons.

1. You may be selecting a day/date we are not normally open. Please read our opening times section or check our facebook page for any special annoucements.

2. All time slots have been allocated. For example for any one time slot we can take up to 10 people. This could be 5 tables of 2, or 2 tables of 5 etc. If there are 8 guests booked at 7pm, then the system will only show availability for tables of 1 or 2 people. If your party is 3 or more, then it will not offer 7pm. We also set the online reservation sytem to allow bookings for a minimum duration. Typically 2hrs 15 mins. Therefore whilst the online booking service may not show times available, we may have availability on the agreement your time at the table is on a shorter duration. Please call us on 01624 845470.

3. Your group size is too big to make online bookings (see note below).

GROUP BOOKINGS & EXCLUSIVE USE

If your party is 9 people or more, please contact the restaurant directly on 01624 845470. You will not be able to make online bookings. For group booking we will ask for a deposit to confirm your reservation and a food pre-order (our kitchen and dining room is not large, so pre-orders help plan ahead and around our other customers).

Depending on the size of your group, we may limited the available arrival times and a duration on the table. Generally bookings made at 5.30pm  or 6pm will have a table duration of 2 hours 15 mins, bookings at 8pm / 8.30pm and 8.45pm will have the table for the night.

SPECIAL EVENTS

Please note that for special events / menus e.g. Fathers Day, Christmas Parties etc, bookings made online are treated as provisional until such time the required deposit has been paid. In your booking confirmation email you will receive important information about the event, and instructions about paying deposits and/or balances. Deposits can be paid by phone or by visiting the restaurant. Please note that we reserve the right to cancel the reservation if the required deposit is not paid within an agreed time (usually 48 hours). If you decide you no longer want the booking, please call to let us know so that the table can be made available to other bookings.

Menus

In addition to our a la carte menu, we have daily specials. Unfortunately we will not be able to tell you these in advance as the menu is usually created on the day based on deliveries of fish and other fresh produce.

Should you wish to order something special ‘off menu’ e.g. Lobster / Oysters etc, this can be arranged with advance notice subject to availability & season. Market prices will apply based on the season.

Sundays. In addition to our A la carte lunch menu, we offer a choice of roasts. This will be roast beef, alongside a guest roast (either Pork or Lamb) and a plant based nut roast.

As a primarily seafood restaurant and limited kitchen, we are not able to provide a wide selection of vegan/meat options.

Dessert Menu

Please note, we cannot guarantee the total absence of dairy / gluten / nuts in any of our dishes, where GF, DF is indicated next to a dish, this means the dish is made using dairy free / gluten free products.

Special Occasions

Let us take the stress and organising of celebration items such as table decorations, balloons, banners and cakes.
See our menu of celebration items we can provide. Please give at least 48hrs notice should you require any of the items.
Its a touchy subject, but let us explain why. If you wish to bring your own cake we may add a cake supplement. A bit like corkage for bringing alcohol into a restaurant.
We do this to cover the costs of supplying additional crockery, cutlery, and to cover loss of earnings (we are a food business after all and providing desserts etc is where we source our income). However, should additional desserts be ordered we may at our discretion remove any cake charge. We appreciate your understanding.
